KUALA LUMPUR: Women’s singles shuttler Soniia Cheah’s misery has turned out to be a blessing for Goh Jin Wei.
Soniia has withdrawn from the Malaysian Masters after aggravating a hamstring injury during training on Saturday.
With Soniia out, Jin Wei, who is the first reserve, will get to play in the World Tour season-opener starting on Tuesday at the Axiata Arena in Bukil Jalil.
Jin Wei has been cleared to play after going through a colectomy surgery less than three months ago.
Soniia said she hoped to make a return at the Indonesian Masters.
“I’ve no choice but to skip this tournament. It’s the hamstring again and I’m undergoing rehabilitation now, ” said Soniia, who picked up the injury at the Philippines SEA Games last month.
