MALAYSIA:  Fast improving women’s doubles pair Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah is looking to keep their recent good run going after breezing into the second round of the Swiss Open.

The pair, buoyed by their recent quarter-final appearances at the Thailand Open and Thailand Masters, were hardly troubled as they got past Austrian pair Serena Au Yong-Katharina Hochmeir 21-7, 21-6 in the first round in Basel on Wednesday. Pearly-Thinaah now ranked a career-high No. 30 in the world.

A frustrating outing for World No 27 Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani as they bowed out in the first round against sixth seeds Kim Astrup-Anders Skaarup Rasmussen.

Despite taking the first game, Sze Fei-Izzuddin failed to keep up the pressure as they lost 20-22, 21-13, 21-13. There were better fortunes, however, for national back-up pair Low Hang Yee-Ng Eng Cheong.
